Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need to be a mom/parent in order to become a mentee or a Momtor?

Yes, in order to become a mentee or a Momtor in the Momtor program, you need to be a mom or parent that identifies as a caretake. Momtor was specifically founded to support moms who are looking to capitalize on their career aspirations. The program is designed to provide guidance, advice, and resources tailored to the unique challenges and experiences that moms face in their professional journeys while balancing the responsibilities of motherhood.

  • How long is the program and what is the time commitment?

The commitment is for both parties to understand that you should be meeting at least once per week for 1-2 hours per week to achieve optimal success. The meetings between Momtor/Mentee begin once the program onboarding is complete and will be scheduled based on mutual availability. There will be additional opportunities to be involved including social events and trainings, but these are optional.

Since a mentorship relationship is based on trust, both the mentor and mentee are responsible for determining the best cadence to achieve the outcomes of the relationship. This may mean choosing to meet more frequently than just the required once a month. At the completion of the program, it is up to the mentor and mentee to determine if the relationship should continue.

  • How does the matching process work?

Mentee’s will be asked about their career aspirations and development goals. The Momtor-Mentee matches will be paired based on this information. We will not pair a Momtor-Mentee based on personality, however should there be personality conflicts that arise, mentorships can be rearranged as we wish success for everyone. Our goals are to achieve genuine professional growth.

  • What if the match isn’t a good fit?

We understand that a mentorship cannot be coerced. If you believe that the match is not the right fit, kindly reach out to us. We will assess the situation to identify any factors that may be hindering the relationship or determine if it is indeed a true mismatch. From there, we will determine the appropriate next steps to take.

  • What does the application process involve? How long does it take to finish the process?

To apply for the Momtor program, you will need to complete a comprehensive intake form. This form allows you to share information about yourself, your interests, and your preferences regarding the program to ensure that we can make a suitable match for you. Additionally, you will need to review and agree to our Code of Conduct and Momtorship Agreement. Following this, you will have an interview with one of our board members to further assess your candidacy. Overall, the entire application process typically takes about a week or two.

  • I have never participated in a mentorship program before. What can I expect?

No problem! This is a great opportunity to learn and practice communication, networking, and hands-on training. A great mentee comes into this with an open mind and a willingness to learn and grow. We provide mentee orientation materials at the beginning of each season to get you started on the right foot.

  • Are there any costs involved to become a Mentee?

The program is entirely free! All you need to bring is your time, attention, and respect, and an open mindset.
